Living Green
kasina is committed to protecting the environment, and we aggressively alter our office behavior accordingly. This commitment manifests itself in many ways, from individual efforts to company-wide initiatives, including:
- RECYCLING: We are obsessive recyclers and constantly identify new materials for reuse. In addition to the standard items recycled by the New York City Department of Sanitation, we reuse paper in our printers, buy 100% post-consumer recycled paper products, and send yogurt containers to a Massachusetts-based company that up-cycles the containers into toothbrushes.
- SUPPLIES: We use environmentally-sensitive cleaning materials from Seventh Generation. We are also in the process of replacing the bulk of our other office supplies with environmentally friendly products.
- ENERGY: We offset our carbon footprint by partnering with companies that support renewable energy, energy efficiency, and reforestation projects, such as Sustainable Travel International and Carbonfund.org, and by equipping as many of our computers as possible with energy-efficient hardware. Our company car is a hybrid, our lighting is energy efficient and fluorescent, and our batteries are rechargeable.
- FOOD: kasina is two blocks away from New York's largest Greenmarket. We stock our kitchen with organic food and snacks, and with fruit grown locally during the growing season. Additionally, kasina supports local agriculture through purchasing New York state dairy and juice.
